Do you have an important person in your life who is super picky and hard to buy gifts for? You want to get them something special to show how much you appreciate them. But when you ask them what they want, their response is always, “Nothing”, “I don’t need anything” or “Just having you around on this special occasion is more than enough”.
So you put a lot of thought and effort in picking out the perfect gift for them, hoping that they’ll love it. When you give it to them, they act like they love it. But you never see them use it or wear it. You even find out that they returned it! Ugh.
For me, that person is my mom. I have the most amazing mom on the planet (no bias here!). She does so much for me and my family. Every year when her birthday and holidays roll around, I want to buy her something that she’ll love to show my appreciation for her.
She is hard to please, yet too kind to actually ask for what she wants.
And every year, I end up getting her a gift card or pajamas. They’re the only two things I know she will use and that she won’t return. Yet, I still don’t feel like they bring all that much value to her.
Does this sound familiar to you? Probably! We all have these lovely people in our lives 😉
Well, guess what! I have stumbled upon the PERFECT gift for our favorite picky people.
The Perfect Gift for the Picky Person
Drum roll, please…
It is the the gift of Amazon Prime!
Now, if you have Amazon Prime you may be thinking, “Seriously, Jen? Doesn’t everyone already have that?”. First, yes, seriously. Second, no, not everyone has $119 to spend on Amazon Prime.
In addition, even if this person already has Amazon Prime it’s going to expire at some point within the year. When it does, they can use your gift for their renewal. That’s one free year of Amazon Prime. I’d totally take it!
Why Amazon Prime is the Perfect Gift
First, it’s more thoughtful than just picking up a gift card again at CVS.
Second, the value that you get from the $119 you’re spending is a lot greater than if you were to buy a gift card for $119 (you’ll find out why in just a second!).
Third, pretty much everyone shops on Amazon. If the person of the hour shops on Amazon, then the Gift of Prime is an easy win. It’s still a valuable gift if they already have a Prime membership – they’ll be able to use it once their current membership expires. Or they can exchange it for an Amazon gift card that will be in the amount of what you paid for the membership.
My bet though is that they’ll want to keep it. Afterall, Amazon Prime is the gift that keeps on giving! This is essentially what you’re giving when you gift an Amazon Prime membership:
1. FREE Shipping!
This is the most well-known benefit of Amazon Prime. People hate paying for shipping – it’s such a waste of money. Prime members get free shipping on tons of products. And wait, it gets better – it’s free TWO DAY shipping! Same day shipping is even available in some locations which is crazy – you literally have no reason to leave the house!
2. Prime Video
Prime members can stream a bunch of movies and shows for free. We recently “cut the cord” and having Amazon Prime Video is a huge advantage now.
Also, Amazon has come out with some really good original shows, like “The Man in the High Castle”, that are definitely worth watching!
3. Prime Music
Just like video, Prime members have access to stream more than a million songs for free.
4. Restaurant Delivery
This benefit is available in limited areas – and unfortunately my area isn’t one of them! If it is in your area though, you scan through lists of restaurants near you and have the food delivered right to your door.
Prime Reading is like an online library of over 1,000 books and magazines that Prime members can read for free. You can also get your hands on certain books before they’re even released – for free!
6. Prime Photos
Prime members have access to unlimited cloud storage for their pictures and videos.
7. Whole Foods Discount
Amazon recently acquired Whole Foods. As a result, Prime members get a 10% discount on select items.
8. Household Membership
If the person you’re gifting the Prime membership lives with other people, they can share their Prime membership! In a way, you’ve bought a gift for the whole family 🙂
There are a handful of additional benefits that come with Amazon Prime membership, but the perks listed above are the most useful in general.
How to Purchase Amazon Prime as a Gift
Oddly enough, Amazon doesn’t do a great job of advertising Amazon Prime as a gift. Which is probably why I just found out about it this week. Here is the link to purchase it.
Once you land on the page, you’ll see the 2 membership options that you can choose. Either a 3 month membership for $39 or a 12-month membership for $119. Select the one you want and add it to your cart.
When you’re checking out, you’ll be asked to enter the recipient’s email address. Amazon was really smart about this – they let you pick the date that the email will be delivered to the recipient. You can also add a personal message to be included.
If the recipient doesn’t have Amazon Prime, then they can redeem it whenever they want. If, however, they do already have Amazon Prime, they has two options:
- They let their current membership expire. Once it expires, they can redeem the gift. Keep in mind that the gift membership does not auto-renew.
- They can exchange the gift for an Amazon gift card in the amount that you paid for it.
So if you have a picky person in your life, what are you waiting for? Get the Gift of Amazon!
