Refreshing products That will Breathe New Life Into Your Self-Care Routine
What comes to mind when you think of “self-care”? Is it a day at the spa, getting your hair done, or going away for a weekend retreat?
Those are all forms of self-care, but they can run you a pretty penny. And if expensive ideas are the only ideas we have for self-care, well, we’re probably not taking care of ourselves nearly as much as we should.
Self-care doesn’t need to be fancy or complicated. A hot cup of tea or a bubble bath with a good book is sometimes all it takes to revitalize ourselves.
In the spirit of simplicity, here are my top 13 absolute must-have self-care items. The best part? They’re all under $25!
LUXURIOUS, but inexpensive Self-Care Items

Sometimes, it’s the little things! These are my tried and true items that bring me comfort in the best of ways. I hope they’ll add some comfort to your life, too!
These are my go-to socks at home. If you have hardwood floors, these are a MUST. If I’m home, I’m wearing a pair of these fuzzy socks. Winter, spring, summer, fall – doesn’t matter. They’re on my feet. They’re comfortable, warm and I feel like I’m wrapping my feet in a fluffy blanket every time I wear them.

Don’t let the “nipple balm” throw you off! This stuff is amazing for your lips. I’ve been using it for years! The very first time I tried it was in the winter and my lips were incredibly dry. Regular chapstick wasn’t cutting it. I tried this and my lips were better by the next day.

The scent of your body lotion can lift your mood or make you feel calm instantly. In the summer, I love going for scents that invigorate me. In the winter, or in any sort of stressful time, I opt for body lotion in a lavender or more subtle scent. It’s also really important that your body lotion actually moisturizes. For a time I was using a body lotion made by Target that smelled amazing, but did nothing for my skin. I eventually stopped using it because dry skin wasn’t worth it!
Right now I’m loving the Dove Glowing Ritual line. It’s super moisturizing and the scents are nice and light. You can purchase it here.
Journaling is extremely therapeutic and should be in everyone’s self-care toolbox. Any sort of notebook will work, but it’s so much more enjoyable when you have quality paper and the journal is in a design or color that matches your personality. There are also journals that are really fun to write in and look back on later, like 52 Lists of Happiness.
Lighting a candle adds such a lovely, relaxing glow to your space. Getting one in your favorite scent is even better. Pick a scent based on the mood you’re aiming for (you can find 6 Scents That Can Transform Your Mood here) or a scent that brings some of your favorite memories to mind. My all time FAVORITE scent is Lemon Lavender by Yankee Candle. Soy candles are a healthier option to look into as well.
I like to use face masks because they freshen up my face. I’m by no means an expert in skincare and I’m sure there are some really great masks out there. I tend to stick with inexpensive ones, like this one by Burt’s Bees.
Dark chocolate has a way of lifting my mood, unlike milk chocolate or any other type of sweet. It’s like it’s just enough sweetness, you don’t need too much of it to feel satisfied, and it’s a solid source of antioxidants (so I don’t feel guilty eating it!).
A cup of hot tea is my go-to on stressful work calls. It keeps me calm! I also enjoy sipping a hot cup of tea while watching a TV show or reading a book. Just as with candles, you can buy different flavors to encourage different moods. At night, I like to drink Sleepytime tea or chamomile tea. During the day I enjoy lemon, mint, or just plain tea with a bit of honey.
If you don’t want to splurge on pedicures every couple of weeks, this foot cream does wonders for the bottom of your feet. My feet were SO dry this past winter, and I got a sample of this cream in a subscription box. I figured I’d give it a try and I was blown away by the results. I put it on after showering one night, and by the morning my feet were noticeably softer. It also gives your feet a cooling sensation when you apply it which is really nice.

Is there anything better than a book that you just can’t put down? It’s a great escape into different worlds and lives. Reading a good book will take your mind off of anything that’s weighing you down, so if it’s been a while since you’ve read, consider this your reminder to start again. 🙂 If you’re an avid reader, check out Amazon Kindle Unlimited – it’s more than worth it.
This is one of my more recent self-care purchases. It’s a cordless deep conditioning heat cap for your hair. It’s made with flax seed in it so you just pop it in the microwave for a bit to heat it up. A few times a month, I leave conditioner in my hair, heat up the cap, and wear it for about 15-20 minutes. The warmth is soothing and it adds extra moisture to your hair.

These are a must-have for me. I can listen to whatever music or podcast I want while doing chores and I don’t have to listen to my kids crying for me to shut it off! Wireless is key so that you don’t have to carry your phone around the room with you. I don’t mind cleaning and folding laundry when I can listen to my podcasts in peace. They help bring a little joy to the more mundane tasks in our lives.

My mother gifted me a silk pillowcase and now I think everyone should have one! It feels wonderful on your skin and keeps your hair from frizzing and knotting up overnight. It’s also gentle on your face, unlike cotton pillowcases that are actually rough on your skin.

A Final Thought
Indulging in self-care doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. Curling up in your favorite chair, with a good book, cup of tea, and a candle can be just as refreshing as going to a spa! You may even already have some of these items, but you forgot about or haven’t used in a while – even better!
Have fun with it!
